Judging from all the spiking tracert's i can see here proves it is not a problem with the ultra-serve network. The way ISP's all work and connect together differs. They use parts of other companies and more or less 'piggy back' off one another. The tracert from greg:

  1    28 ms    28 ms    21 ms  10.99.64.1
  2   237 ms   199 ms   206 ms  gsr01-fn.blueyonder.co.uk [62.31.144.129]
  3    41 ms    72 ms    57 ms  pc-62-30-245-45-do.blueyonder.co.uk [62.30.245.4
5]
  4    64 ms    55 ms    76 ms  pc-62-30-245-18-do.blueyonder.co.uk [62.30.245.1
8]
  5    87 ms   117 ms   171 ms  edi-gat-pos.telewest.net [194.117.136.9]
  6   238 ms   101 ms    92 ms  194.117.136.209
  7   229 ms   199 ms   230 ms  194.117.136.178
  8    50 ms   213 ms    49 ms  tele1-know-rab.telewest.net [194.117.136.158]
  9    67 ms    33 ms    36 ms  xpe.999.gi0-3.rt0.thdo.catalyst2.net [217.79.160
.108]
 10    30 ms    81 ms    48 ms  84-18-199-115.no-reverse-yet.catalyst2.com [84.1
8.199.115]

shows that the problem starts at a blueyonder router. HIS ping to that router spikes before he gets past that to the Ultra-Serve network.

Likewise with scotman:

1    <1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms 192.168.0.1
2    20 ms    51 ms    44 ms 10.125.176.1
3    17 ms    20 ms    41 ms 80.195.0.5
4   128 ms    84 ms    74 ms pc-62-30-251-2-ro.blueyonder.co.uk [62.30.251.2]

5    74 ms    80 ms    29 ms 194.117.136.209
6    25 ms    16 ms    27 ms 194.117.136.178
7    36 ms    25 ms    27 ms tele1-know-rab.telewest.net [194.117.136.158]
8    43 ms    38 ms    24 ms xpe.999.gi0-3.rt0.thdo.catalyst2.net [217.79.160
.108]
9    28 ms    32 ms    28 ms 84-18-199-115.no-reverse-yet.catalyst2.com [84.1
8.199.115]

As soon as it hits the BY router, it starts going supercallafredgalisticexpialladocious. Anyone on Blueyonder or telewest will probably experience the same, as the companies are one in the same. Because NTL have now merged with Telewest, i dont know what difference this now makes to their trafffic routes.

Unfortunately this is not a problem Ultra-Serve can fix. Its one of these things that occasionally happens when parts of a network get heavy load or something goes pop. Also known as 'Transient Network Problems'.

Im sure it will sort itself out soon,

well given that both Telewest and NTL are upgrading there networks in ready for there merger etc, im not surprised people on Telewest and NTL having problems, but Telewest are due to finish upgrades here in Edinburgh 2moro, so heres hoping :P
