Can someone explain how I can go about setting up RAID on my pc?

I dont know much about it. I want to mirror my music collection so if one hard disk goes I don't lose it.

I don't have RAID on my motherboard i don't think (soltek DRV75 iirc). So I need to purchase a PCI raid controller?

Do I have to use identical drives? I'd need to buy a new hard drive, ive got an IBM 120gb and an IBM 40gb atm. So if I buy another IBM/Hitachi 120gb and a raid controller that will work?

you could use hardware or software raid... XP will allow it. You conver the disks to dynamic and then create a raid partition out of unpartitioned space. V easy - hardware raid will be better tho but its up to you...

what happens if i do it with another hard drive bigger than 120gb? am i limited to 120gb on the new drive?

i'm only fussed really about backing up my music. can i set it to only duplicate certain folders, then could I use the rest of the space as I please? still a bit

youre limited to the size of the smallest drive for raid 1 but you can use the remaining space in a non-raid partition so its not wasted, its just not mirrored.
