Right im trying to find out my universitys ssh server address does anyone have a clue how i could find it

hmm..
prolly not the best idea dude. It's a severe no no (ie kicking out) offence in most unis to be trying to crack the systems.
However, maybe they wouldnt mind a wee port scan.
So what you want to do is..
1. learn whicvh port ssh runs on
2. scan your uni network for a response on that port
(NMap is the best program for this. make sure you read ALL the documentation which teaches you the different scan methods)
or alternatively..
1. Forget all of the above and dont bother, because if they pick up on your scan you are likely to be up to the Deans office for a swift kick to the testicles!

what chief said... note: they are likely to have quite sophisticated firewalls which will detect intruders...

well you see im pretty sure im allowed to use their ssh server because im pretty sure my login works on it becaue bob was telling me he has access to his at york and his standard username and password allow access the only problem im having is i aint got a clue what my uni's ssh address is

i can ssh into a good few of my uni network pc's if not for files for mail etc etc
