Rate configuring

Some useful info try it a see if it makes a difference.

Since cs isn't fair in the way that ppl who know how to configure their rates so that they have almost no recoil and all of the bullets hit and then there are those players who struggle to play the game with lowsy rates and then consider them selves ****ty players because they don't hit. I've decided to post here a rate configuring guide for all those who have no idea how to do it and thus making the game more "even" for every one. Before changing any rates you might want to type the ones you have now on a piece paper.
The rates being changed in this "guide"
are:

rate "overall traffic in bits"
cl_cmdrate "packets received"
cl_updaterate "packets sent"

Ok, so this is what I've found out...

Adjusting recoil:

Now this doesn't seem have anything to do with the server you'r on since it's our "cl_updaterate" and it seems that Counter-Strike calculates your recoil from that AND not from server data or anything else !
To check your recoil shoot a wall from a distance of 5-10m and look at the spread. If the bullets hit inside your crosshair your "cl_updaterate" is fine but might need some fine tuning, if not then you have some adjusting to do. Start from "cl_updaterate 30" and increase it by 5 or 10 at a time.
Once the recoil starts to hit inside your crosshair then just fine tune the recoil to perfection by changing the rate just one up or down several times to see what's the best choice for you. Once you've found that rate, just to check it's the right one, change it to a rate 20 or 30 higher or lower and then change it back if it was the right one.

"OMG MY BULLET'S WENT RIGHT THROUGH HIM":

This is a common problem and ppl have started to ignore it and started to accept it's just that their not skillful enough, but we all have eyes and see if we've hitted a 3-5 burst straight into someone with no effect. This is a problem that is the sum of "rate" and "cl_cmdrate", and "cl_updaterate" was your recoil. The general responce would be that your rates are not HIGH enough. Bull****, it isn't about them not being HIGH enough but maybe they are too high... Counter-Strike servers don't need "megabytes" of information from you to know what you are doing and too much info to the server makes you out of "sync" with everyone else on the server since you are sending data 2 times faster to the server than it needs. Thus making your bullets go through because the packets aren't being processed fast enough or just in different times (out of sync)... So instead of having hellish high rates you might want to start the adjustment from small and gradually moving up to the larger rates. To see the traffic between you and the server type "net_graph 3". There you can see the packets being sent and bandwidth used. If the sent and recieved traffic is something 7-10kb/s it's too high... 3-6kb/s is the optimal traffic both ways...

And might I remind you that these are not a result of any calculations or an equation, just findings over 3 years of experience...

So set your "rate" to 9999 and "cl_cmdrate" to the same as your "cl_updaterate". If you start seeing loss or choke then increase the rates using small changes to both "cl_cmdrate" and "rate". I would first start to increase the "cl_cmdrate" once you feel that you'r hitting. If choke starts to get over 30 then increase "rate". I myself like to have a little choke (from 0 to 10) just to know that my rates are not too HIGH. Now the rest is just based on feeling but if the rates go too high your bullets start going through the other players again. And also too high rates start affecting you ping so that it rises and no-one want's that to happen !!

Configuring your rates won't make you superman BUT it will help you hit when you'r actually supposed to be hitting. You still need to play with wit, cunningness and carefullness.

i seemed to be top of the scores again tonight womble... looks liek the d-mon is beginning to regain some of his old skillz... now all i need to do is find my darn haxes to get REALLY good...
