We are still getting the occasional cockwipe bot spammers registering, and getting past the captcha (I would estimate 30 or so in the last 6 months) which I have had to manually delete. Way better than it used to be but still not great, so I have implemented yet another layer of security for user registration.
http://www.botscout.com/
A very simple tool which just checks the username / email address / ip of people registering on forums etc. It monitors for patterns of bots registering loads from one address, or using the same details on many sites, and when you run a check, it will return a score. Based on that you can simply bomb the registration out and in our case, redirect them to this:

I'm also implementing this on my personal site as I started getting spam registrations within 72 hours of putting it up! I would recommend you suggest as many people you know as possible tu use it because quite simply, the more people use it, the easier it will catch the spammers and be more accurate in recognising them.
