My current set up appears to have given up the ghost.

PSU was making a squealing noise last week and then it failed to boot up anymore. So have purchased a new PSU but now found it will turn on but no beeps or video signal output.

I think the failing PSU has cooked the mo'bo or cpu or both. So time for new bits. I rarely have time to play games on the pc anymore so have no need for any sort of high spec, it mainly just gets used for downloading torrents.

I'm out of touch completely with what current specs are - will it be cheapest for me to buy a bundle?

i've got DDR 400 memory with my old board but suspect it's no use nowadays? also got a 6800GT PCI:e video card which I hope still works, but equally if i get a board with onboard graphics that will suffice.

So I think I need recommendations for a board, cpu, memory, and a SATA drive. basically cheapest possible and if it's a bundle that saves me some hassle, but i can assemble as long as i know it's compatible.

anyone help?

first... is your pc case compatible with mATX, since both of those deals are mATX ones. If I would buy one of those 2 sets, I'd go for the AMD.

also, might it be an alternative to buy second hand?

I've got a case so bit cheaper just to stick a bundle in that.

pretty sure my current case will take mATX as well as it has various mounts which are smaller than the ones for ATX

any suggestions for second hand bart? i don't really know what i'd want. will it be much cheaper than a ~£100 bundle?

Soz only just saw ur post, why not go for zero hassle and buy a second hand desktop?

Any of these would do the job for a non gaming rig:

At home I have 2 dell optiplex desktops floating about I use for random stuff as I need, eg media PC or whatever.

hmm it's no hassle for me to stick the parts together, i was just hopelessly out of touch with what the current chips are etc hence going for a bundle.
