I am buying the components of a new computer separately.
Tower,
Mother-board,
Processor,
RAM,
HDD,
Graphics card,
Sound Card,
FDD,
CD-RW,
Etc...
Are there any specific compatibility issues anyone thinks I should be aware of before buying all that and then piecing it together?

if u but ddr400, make sure its corsair xms stuff. its very compatible, reliable and has a heat spreader so reduces heat probs. i reccomend buying epox or asus boards. epox being my fav as theyre v reliable and an overclockers dream if ur into that sort of thing too. also, stick with athlons, pentiiums are sh*t on price/performance. if u wanna avoid compatability problems then avid buyin cheap components. its a simple rule, but it has served me well. also 1 last thing, dont buy ibm hdds. they suck. go for seagate ones. they are v good quality and will last forever

So i am not missing any components in that list for my tower to run then?
When i boot up the computer, the BIOS will be on the motherboard already?

all looks good to me, cept u forgot about the heatsink & fan plus any compound.pads ur gonna use for the base of the heat sink. Also, make sure u check if ur tower comes with a psu tho cos often they dont. if it doesnt then get one from here:
www.quietpc.com
maplin also sell quietpc stuff for cheaper than the main site:
www.maplin.co.uk
free delivery over £30 too...

Ta for the link, but i use my own trustly little shop down the road where i always get all my hardware from. They've been good to me in the past and always given me good deals. They said that they would supply a tower with a psu anyway.
Whats a compound pad then?

its instead of using grease. i use the pads cos theyre alot less messy, and ive read a number of articles which say theyre better to use on permanent installations (ie when u dont swap ur processor/hsf every week) because the grease can run a wee bit and so not give you as much heat transfer. they dont cost much (£2.50 for 3) and it just makes the whole job alot easier and less messy.

oooerr,
Didnt know it was as complicated as this..
I am used to supporting them once they are built... not building them!
I might ask for more advice in this thread once i get my super-duper king of computers.
...to be continued.

Normaly the fan/heatsink for the processor comes with a pad on the bottom so all you have to worry about is breaking the mobo when you fit the f**king AMD fans...
But if you go with a Itel Pentium (which I would say is ALOT better 100% compatible and no worry's if you heatkin/fan fails) I would be running an Intel but but old PIII Mobo failed me (thats what you get for over clocking a moBo) so I had to get a new computer on the cheep, so the Athlon had to do .
But it is stright forward fit all the parts to the spaces that it fitts (evey part you put in will had one place it will go) the Bios is built into the MoBo, then set up the Bios to boot from a CD rom and put in your autoboot copy of windows (or Linux if so inclinded) and install..
Thats it....
PS:
Make sure the Bios reset is turned !!off!! (some Mobo makes leave it on reset mode and thus your computer will not start)

Cool...
Ordered that PC now, picking it up on Saturday the 28th and gonna be building it later the following week.
Should be up and running soon and i will be using this new computer as the dogs body for applications including CS.
Speaking of which, I have posted another topic in the practice forum which will explain more about this situation...

Pentium 4 3.06GHz 533 FSB
1024Mb DDR RAM
Radeon 9800pro 128Mb GC
Soundblaster Live! 5.1 surround sound SC
40Gb 7200Rpm IDE HDD
52xspeed CD-RW
MS Bluetooth keyboard and Mouse
I'll post a pic here of it all set up once i get home.
The tower rules... It was chucked in as a buying bonus. It has a see-through neon-lit side with adjustable fans on the side, back and top.
The heat sink and fan for the P4 is as big as the PSU!
/me rubs hands and sits outside his local Game store until 30th September... "Bring it on!!!"
