Hey network bods,

Something strange is going on. There's something wrong. Who my gonna call? You guys...

We have a strange issue with updating the various sites we hold on our U.S. server (Verio). When I upload new pages / images and then refresh I.E / Netscape / Firefox / Safari whatever. it does not recognise the new files and continues to display the old ones, even after the cache has been erased and the page refreshed. It's like there's some other external cache between the server and the browser that is preventing it from working. This is a complete pain, as we can't update sites instantly or properly anymore. Weird example, our own site http://www.visionbh.com is displaying half of itself, even though I have now completely deleted all the files from the Server.

I did a bit of research, and wonder if it's a local area Proxy Server that's caching the files and not updating properly (but I'm just guessing). Anyone got any ideas what this could be, and more importantly how to fix it. Unfortunately even if I call Batelco, the local and only hardline phone company in Bahrain, all I'll get is a 'Ah yanni, network not coming, maybe coming tomorrow insh'alla, I don't know anything' kind of response.

HELP!

H.

agreeage with scotz. How about changing the DNS servers that your connection is using? I'm not sure if that would work - but it might be worth a try.

yeah.

the biggest problem is isp's dont like changing jack for just 1 set of people.

i managed to get a group of 70 people from quakenet on nildram to lodge a joint complaint they now refresh there cache more.

apart from that it might be worth looking for an open proxy to use in conjunction with what you have already.

connecting to a remote proxy to view things if this happens again may work

aha indeed - use the "use procy server" bit in your IE options. You should be able to find one online by googling "proxy list" - there used by dodgyu folkl all the time. If you get page cannot be displayed errors then try a diff proxy ip.

Oh bah... I really can't be bothered to call Batelco. They're a useless bunch of idiots. "Proxy Server? What the hell is that? Cache? Isn't that a kind of biscuit?" Oh well...

I'd just like to say that I am coming up for 250 POSTS!! WooHooo!!!
