SHould you need to decide on a new CPU any time soon, heres a very useful speed comparison tool from Toms Hardware:

I reckon I'm definately gonna go Intel for my next one unless anything changes in the next 3 months...

Just by using this, I figured that I can increase my FPS in HL2 by more than double if i upgrade to a 7950GT

The new intels are "nice" but they are still only 32bit processors, and still use the an off die memory controller meaning they you have to hvae fast ram to get any real perforance out of them.

I would definitely wait to buy a new graphic card, until Direct x 10 is released, since about the same time those graphic that support will be out aswell
